Comprehensive Eye Exam

Comprehensive eye exams consist of a pretest which includes checking your eye pressure, entrance testing, visual acuity, checking your prescription, and checking the health of your eyes. In some instances, it may include dilating your eyes to check the health of the back of your eyes.

For children ages 0-19 years

We recommend getting a comprehensive eye exam every year due to increasing change in shape of their eyes.

For adults ages 20-64 years

We recommend getting a comprehensive eye exam every two years to keep track of the health of your eyes.

For adults ages 65 and above

We recommend getting a comprehensive eye exam every year as with increasing age, we see a higher prevalence of ocular pathologies such as retinal detachment, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

Dry Eye Management

Normally, eyes produce a thin layer of tears that coat the front surface of our eyes. They keep our eyes healthy and are needed for both overall eye health and clear vision. Dry eye occurs when your eyes stop producing enough tears or when the quality of your tears is poor.

If left untreated, excessive dry eyes can damage and possibly scar your cornea, impacting your vision. It can also lead to an increased risk of eye infections.

Since dry eye is a chronic eye condition, it does not have any treatment; however, it can be managed using lubricating eye drops or ointments and more.

Thealoz Duo provides long lasting, preservative free relief from dry eye as it contains trehalose which is a naturally occurring sugar that protects eye cells from drying out, reduces eye inflammation and restores the tear film. In addition to the natural bioprotectant qualities of trehalose, Thealoz Duo provides with a gentle lubricating solution in sodium hyaluronate.

Myopia Management

Myopia, also known as near-sightedness, has become a global health issue in recent years.

Children, now more than ever before, are continuously using smart devices. Consequently, the eye growth in children that is stimulated causes near-sightedness (myopia). Moreover, it causes a stretch of the inner layer of the eye called retina. As a result, the stretch in retina allows other areas in the eye to become weaker. A tear in the retina, therefore, can cause other eye conditions. Hereditary, behavioural and environmental factors also play an important part in progression of myopia.

Controlling the progression of myopia, therefore, is an extremely important and a proactive step in preventing other health conditions later in life like glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment and macular degeneration.

We can help create a treatment plan to slow and potentially stop the progression of your child’s myopia. We have a Topcon MYAH optical biometer. The MYAH captures baseline axial length measurements and uses growth curves and trend reports to track myopia in children.

Soft Contact lens

The use of specific type of contact lenses every day has been shown to decrease myopia progression by 50% as well as reduce the lengthening process of the eye by 29%.

Atropine drops

These drops help relieve eye strain by temporarily altering the ability of the eye to automatically change focus. Studies have shown that atropine is one of the most effective ways of controlling myopia and can reduce myopia progression by approximately 70%. Low dose atropine is well-tolerated in children without any adverse effects. Furthermore, it can reduce the amount of rebound myopia in children once drops are discontinued.

Stellest Lenses

Our clinic features Essilor Stellest lenses that slow down myopia progression by 67% on average, compared to single vision lenses, when worn 12 hours a day. Essilor Stellest went a step further to help control myopia by creating H.A.L.T (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target) technology, a unique innovation tailored to the myopic eye.

MiYOSMART lenses

These lenses made by HOYA contain D.I.M.S (Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments) technology as well as eye shield to curb the myopia progression by an average of 59%.

Eye-M-Growing Program (HOYA)

Eye-M-Growing lenses are made with premium lens material that are highly impact resistant, and extremely strong.

  • Lightest material
  • Superior scratch resistance
  • Impact resistance
  • UV protection
  • Anti-reflective coating

Computer Vision Syndrome

The bright light from our smart devices tricks the brain into thinking it is still daylight outside. Therefore, a lack of melatonin production, which aids sleep, is noticed. Lack of sleep and dysregulation of circadian rhythm, as a result, can cause an increase in hyperactivity and trouble focusing on tasks mirroring symptoms of ADHD. Lenses that filter blue light almost doubled nighttime melatonin levels.

Blue light waves can also cause eye strain, headaches, and fatigue.

HOYA’s Recharge lens coating helps combat the effects of Digital Eye Strain (DES) by filtering blue light up to 30%.

Vision Rx’s BLUMAX lenses use material that blocks most of the blue light as well as 100% of UV-A and UV-B rays ensuring better protection.

HOYA Sync III lenses also reduce fatigue and eye strain by containing a ‘boost zone’ at the bottom of the lens. The boost zone is an area with increased amount of relaxing power allowing eye muscles to relax and focus more easily.
